President’s
Letter
Hello Neighbors!
My name is Tim McCaffrey and I am the incoming President of the
Bellevue Civic Association for 2010. I would like to wish each and every
one of you a happy, safe, and prosperous new year. To borrow a sports
analogy or two, the nice thing about a new year is that we get a do over
– a fresh set of downs, a new shot clock, and a fresh 18holes. Whatever
we didn’t achieve in the past year or was left undone, we get another
chance to make it happen. Many of us set goals or make resolutions to
accomplish a slew of different things: lose weight, exercise more, stop
smoking, get a new job, etc. It’s probably a familiar list to most of us
but remember, the clock’s ticking so let’s get started.
Before moving on to discuss what lies ahead for the BCA in 2010 I
need to say a few words about our outgoing President, Eric Gregory. If
2009 wasn’t the most difficult year in recent memory, it had to rank
right up there. Eric kept a steady hand on the wheel and guided our
organization safely through very difficult waters. Thank you very much
for your dedication and hard work Eric and I look forward to your
support and advice in 2010.
Now, let’s discuss 2010. As an organization, we have a lot to be
proud of: a great website, a wonderful quarterly newsletter, purposeful
committees, and a great membership. But, if we don’t increase our
membership we risk becoming a stale entity. Membership is the life blood
of civic groups and ours is no exception. Goal number one for 2010 –
increase membership! Second on my list, making sure that we are
supporting the standing committees of the BCA; do the folks leading
these groups have what they need to be successful? When I hear that
Jerry DeVoss needs people for the security patrol, I know this needs to
be a priority (see Goal #1, these go hand in hand). Number three, make
sure the projects underway reach fruition. Whether it is the Westbrook
Avenue makeover or funding to complete the Linwood Holton Garden
project, we need to see these projects through so we can build on their
successes. Last but not least, let’s have fun! I haven’t read anything
in our bylaws that precludes it. And fun is generally a free commodity,
and in this day and time, free is a good thing.
So that’s it for now, my opening stanza for 2010. I look forward to
leading the BCA this year and to building on the successes of my
predecessors and I’m very appreciative of the opportunity to do so. My
email and phone number are listed on the inside back cover of this
newsletter and on the website, so please do not hesitate to get in touch
with me if you have something on your mind or need help with something.
Again, I hope everyone herein Bellevue has a great 2010 and I’ll see you
around the neighborhood.
With kind regards,
Tim
